WILDLIFE CAROUSEL
Project: Wildlife Carousel
Location: Jacksonville, Florida
Owner: Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens
Construction Cost: $425,000
Project Size: 2,611 SF
Completion: March 2005
Completed in March 2005, the Wildlife Carousel sits on the Main Path between The Range of the Jaguar and Trout River Plaza. The carousel features 34 hand designed and hand painted animals in a classic design and is covered by a custom, pre-engineered canopy system, which aside from the carousel animals and the machinery to operate them, was the most significant element of this project.
The Wildlife Carousel project was part of a larger project that included a new restroom building at the Elephant Plaza, major improvements to the Giraffe exhibit, a new themed garden (Savanna Blooms), and improvements to nearly 800 feet of the Main Path (Zoo Road), stretching from the railroad crossing at the entrance to the African Loop to the Wildlife Carousel.
